As the Creative Studio Lead, you'll be responsible for the Decathlon UK in-house creative studio, directing brand marketing projects to ensure goals are met. 

You'll be working with the Decathlon UK brand visual and verbal identity to design and conceptualise ideas. You'll balance creative exploration and inspiration with practical delivery. 

You'll assign creative projects to the appropriate resource, verify deadlines are being met and present work to stakeholders. 

You'll maximise talents, recognise great ideas, coach and mentor the creative team to reach the potential of the concept.

You'll be the primary contact for all projects, able to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders as well as external suppliers to ensure the smooth running of work flow.

The responsibilities:

 

  • Act as the first point of contact and maintain positive relationships with internal clients to become the trusted advisor in all projects briefed into the DECATHLON UK creative studio.

  • Proactive leadership of the creative team encouraging high performance and best-in-class creative executions.

  • Develop concepts for integrated marketing campaigns aligning for multi-channels and applications.

  • Lead the overall creative development of multiple projects from conception to completion in accordance with deadlines.

  • Sketch, storyboard & translate ideas with the creative team.

  • Align all creative expressions to the brand strategy and ensure they are relevant for target audiences.

  • Ensure all executions are consistent & conform to brand guidelines.

  • Evaluate the brand expression of projects before and after completion.

  • Present creative concepts and designs to stakeholders.

  • Negotiate with stakeholders to amend ideas in line with their wishes and explain what is and is not possible.

  • Oversee all creative projects and art direct UK marketing photo shoots.

  • Sign-off projects before they are presented to stakeholders and go into artwork and production.

  • Ensure all projects are delivered according to briefs and that the creative integrity is not lost at the production stage.

  • Regular communication and liaison with senior level stakeholders to ensure expectations are being met as well as offering forward-thinking solutions the creative studio can provide.

  • Oversee the management of workflows, processes and end-to-end delivery of all projects to ensure goals and deadlines are being achieved.

  • Line management of in-house creative team including: designers, copywriters, videographers and artworkers.

  • Identify resource gaps and manage contractors and external vendors.

  • Source external specialist talent as and when required: photographers, illustrators, artists, printers and production.

 

The skills and competencies:

  • Communication & presentation: Excellent articulator of ideas. Confident presentations. skills in order to pitch concepts and also explain ideas to a non-creative audience.

  • Design & digital: Extensive knowledge of graphic design and motion design.

  • Writing: Natural storyteller, able to storyboard concepts and develop compelling creative copy for campaigns.

  • Brand: Strong understanding of brand development and the expression of the brand across multiple channels.

  • Campaign: Strong knowledge of through-the-line marketing strategies, communication methods and media channels.

  • Marketing: Clear understanding of marketing strategies and audience segmentation. 

  • Customer-focused: seeks to understand the customers’ journey, mindset and behaviours translating insights into ideas. Assessing and adjusting creative concepts against communications performance metrics. 

  • Production management: Full awareness of creative processes and techniques – including print production and digital platforms. Management and negotiation of suppliers.

  • Leadership: Lead by example. Elevates, motivates & inspires. Hires, develops and oversees the creative team.

  • Interpersonal: Excellent interpersonal skills. A clear creative visionary while remaining open to others’ ideas. Exceptional listening skills.

  • Resourceful: Proactively able to find quick solutions to overcome any challenge. Sourcing, interviewing and managing freelance creative.

The professional qualifications (*desired but not mandatory):

 

  • Proven track record working as a creative leader with client-side or agency experience.

  • Experience managing and directing a creative team in-house or within a creative, marketing, design or brand agency.

  • Experience working with or for established retail brands*.

  • A creative portfolio of exemplary and effective projects across a spectrum of brands and marketing applications.

  • Degree in graphic design, visual communications or creative advertising.

  • Proficient in latest software (Adobe Creative Suite).
