Our copywriter helps us drive a consistent tone of voice across all our customer touch points, retaining our existing customers with fresh content and attracting new customers with a fresh voice.

 

As our copywriter, the main responsibility is to deliver excellent copy across all our UK communication channels. You will have a passion for writing across all media: digital, social editorial, and print.

The role:

Do you want a job that allows you to demonstrate your creative communication abilities? Are you a proactive, driven and passionate Creative Copywriter?
 

As a Creative Copywriter, you’ll be working within the DECATHLON UK in-house creative studio, responsible for creative writing and story-telling for marketing communications.

 

The Creative Copywriter will generate original written works for the marketing of products, services and experiences through the line and across a broad range of owned and earned channels.

 

Accountable for developing insightful and captivating content that is expressed in the Decathlon UK brand tone-of-voice.

The responsibilities:

  • Create written content for multiple communications channels including but not limited to: Digital display, web, social (owned and earned), stores and PR.

  • Utilise advanced language and communication skills to generate short text, headlines and long copy as well as editing and proofreading.

  • Work alongside designers to conceptualise and build compelling stories across seasonal marketing campaigns.

  • Gather necessary information and insights in order to persuade the target audience to engage, purchase and Decathlon UK’s wide range of sports products and services.

  • Communicate effectively in a writing style that is appropriate for the needs of the audience to inform, entertain and elicit the desired response.

  • Work closely with marketing, commercial and digital managers to discuss how to tailor written content so it’s specific to the channel and customer journey.

  • Own the brand tone-of-voice documents and copy bible for products and service communications - keeping these up to date and encouraging compliance and usage across the business.

  • Advocate the brand tone-of-voice and oversee the written works of external communications vendors and freelance copywriters.

  • Story telling: Effective and articulate storyteller adjusting communication content and style according to the audience.

  • Advanced English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  • Communications & media: Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.

  • Brand: Strong understanding of how to express the brand tone-of-voice effectively across multiple channels.

  • Ways of working: The ability to communicate information and ideas to all levels across the business. Excellent listener, energetic, flexible and highly organized.

  • Professional conduct: Maintains confidentiality, has solid judgement and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Resourceful: Proactively able to find quick solutions to overcome communications challenges.

  • Organised: The ability to prioritise and handle multiple projects of varying complexities and size. 

 

The professional qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as English, advertising, journalism or marketing.

  • Experience working with creative and marketing teams inhouse or within a marketing, creative, brand or PR agency.

  • Experience working with or for established retail brands.

  • A portfolio that represents a range of published works demonstrating writing styles, brand tone-of-voice, varying subject matters and copy lengths.
